Nominations Process

Serve on a Committee or with the National Board of Directors

Wondering how to get involved in our association?

Members are encouraged to nominate themselves or a colleague to serve on a committee or the national Board of Directors. The nominations process opens April 2nd. Nominations must be submitted by July 1st for a NACAS Board or Foundation Board position that begins at the C3X 2018 Conference & Expo. The deadline to volunteer/nominate for a committee position is August 15th. All positions are eligible for self-nominations.

Committee Member

Members are encouraged to nominate themselves or a colleague for the various standing committee positions. Nominations for the next nominations process are due to the NACAS office by August 15.

Once all nominations are received by the August 15 deadline, the NACAS President-Elect then works diligently, in conjunction with the four Regional Boards, to fill all vacancies. The final slate of committee members is reviewed and approved by the NACAS Executive Committee in late summer. New committee members are then notified of their appointment via email by the end of September. Committee members are encouraged, but not required, to attend each C3X Annual Conference & Expo.

Committee Chair

Committee Chairs are required to be a current member of the committee they wish to chair.

Once all nominations are received by the August 15 deadline, the NACAS President-Elect then works diligently, in conjunction with the four Regional Boards, to fill all vacancies. The final slate of committee members & chairs is reviewed and approved by the NACAS Executive Committee in late summer. New committee chairs are then notified of their appointment via email by the end of September. Committee chairs are encouraged, but not required, to attend each C3X Annual Conference & Expo.

Committee Chairs are expected to attend the Annual Leadership Team Meeting and provide an acknowledgement of institutional support in the form of a letter of commitment.

Executive Committee Board Member

Each region is asked every four years to nominate one member to serve as the NACAS President, starting in the Vice President role.  The Regional Board of Directors is responsible for submitting the final recommendation that will be considered by the Nominations Committee and the Board of Directors.  The Nomination Committee then presents the final slate of officers to the membership for approval during the Annual Business Meeting at the C3X Annual Conference & Expo.

Executive Committee positions are expected to attend the Annual Leadership Team Meeting and provide an acknowledgement of institutional support in the form of a letter of commitment.

Regional Director Board Member

Each region is asked to submit a nominee to represent their region on the NACAS Board of Directors.  The Nomination Committee then presents the final slate of Regional Directors to the membership for approval during the Annual Business Meeting at the C3X Annual Conference & Expo.

Regional Director positions are expected to attend the Annual Leadership Team Meeting and provide an acknowledgement of institutional support in the form of a letter of commitment.

At-Large Board Member

Members are encouraged to nominate themselves or a colleague for the At-Large Board positions.   The Nomination Committee will review and select the most qualified member and present the final slate of At-Large Members to the membership for approval during the Annual Business Meeting at the C3X Annual Conference & Expo.

At-Large member positions are expected to attend the Annual Leadership Team Meeting and provide an acknowledgement of institutional support in the form of a letter of commitment.

Regional Board of Directors

Nominations for a Regional Board of Directors position are handled by the individual Regional Boards (Central, East, South, West).  Please contact your Regional President if you wish to serve on the Regional Board.

Length of Service

Service in a volunteer position begins and ends around the C3X Annual Conference & Expo.  For instance, a three year appointment will begin in November 2013 and end November 2016; a one year appointment will begin in November 2013 and end November 2014.

Leadership Position Qualifications

NACAS has established general leadership position qualifications used in selecting association volunteers.  The qualifications are used by the Nominating Committee, regional leadership and the NACAS Board of Directors and may be adjusted or modified to ensure maximum involvement in the association leadership.

We request that all nominees have:

Demonstrated performance on campus or with other organizations in effective organizational, leadership and communication skills

Demonstrated ability to carry a complex task to completion

Committed to understanding the diverse needs and priorities of the Association’s membership

Commitment from campus to attend the National Conference

Maintained full-time employment with a member college or university, or employment with a member Business Partner of the Association

Committee Chairs and Board of Director positions are also expected to attend the Annual Leadership Team Meeting and provide an acknowledgement of institutional support in the form of a letter of commitment.
