Description: Designed with the senior-level professional in mind, this lab is intended to prepare campus leaders for the future of food service. Hosted by industry consultant and specialist, Shawn LaPean, the Innovation Lab will feature round table discussions, panel forums, education sessions, and keynote speakers from leaders innovating campus convenience, diverse flavor palates, and robotic technology across colleges and universities. After participating in this day and a half long workshop, attendees will be able to anticipate changing student trends and apply best practices learned outside of higher education to transform the student and campus community experience.

CASP Lab: An Overview & Test Prep

About: CASP Lab is part of QUAD: A Pre-Conference Skill Building Experience.

Details: This is an add-on event. Don’t forget to include CASP Lab as you register for C3X.

Description: CASP Lab is broken out into two parts, one developed for those who are taking the exam at C3X and another for those who wish to take the exam sometime in the future.

Group One – An Overview: This program is geared toward those who plan on taking the CASP exam in 2020 and beyond. Attendees will get a high-level overview of the program and will learn what it takes to earn the prestigious CASP title.

Part Two – Test Prep: This program is geared toward those who plan on taking the CASP exam in Phoenix, Arizona at C3X 2019. Attendees will get access to resources to help master exam content areas, tips for decreasing test anxiety, and will have the opportunity to bond with other auxiliary professionals who are on the same path to certification.

Description: Preparing those seeking a career in auxiliary services, the Leadership Lab will cultivate foundational leadership and management skills needed for the university professional to succeed long-term. With today’s social and political climate, navigating campus politics while also fostering inclusivity is crucial for young professionals looking to enhance their understanding of issues impacting the campus community. The Leadership Lab will provide tangible lessons aimed at increasing awareness of diversity and inclusion issues, while also guiding you through the nuances of campus politics that will leave you better prepared to take the next step in your auxiliary services career.

Description: From small footprint counter merchandisers to high volume branded franchises, Innovation Lab attendees will learn best practices from campus leaders in the food retail business. Megan Finnerty is a journalist and storytelling consultant who works with individuals, nonprofits and brands. Essentially, she’s a professional listener… who also likes to talk. She’s the director of the Storytellers Brand Studio and the founder and director of the Storytellers Project, a nationwide series of live storytelling events from the USA TODAY Network in more than 20 cities. Her storytelling coaching methods have helped almost 3,000 people tell their stories on stages across the country.

Finnerty has coached more than 1,000 people to share true, first-person stories. She graduated from Purdue University, and was a news features reporter at The Arizona Republic for 14 years.

Zachary R. Wood wants to encourage open conversations about hard topics. He is a Robert L. Bartley Fellow at The Wall Street Journal and a class of 2018 graduate of Williams College, where he served as president of Uncomfortable Learning, a student group that sparked national controversy for inviting provocative speakers to campus, from John Derbyshire to Charles Murray. Wood’s defense of such conversations led him to give Senate testimony in the summer of 2017.

His recent writing has appeared in The Wall Street JournalThe Washington Post, The Huffington Post, The Nation, The Weekly Standard, Times Higher Education, Inside Higher Ed, Jet and SLAM Magazine. In 2018, he published Uncensored, a book that tells his own personal story to enrich and deepen his work as an advocate for difficult conversations.
