Dining dollars at the University of Idaho activate along with the meal plans – either on a scheduled opening day for our residential plans or on the day of purchase for our voluntary plans. Dining dollars are valid for the semester in which they were purchased for the residential plans, and voluntary dining dollars are set for the whole school year. For our residential people, if they get a meal plan in the Spring semester then their residual dining dollars roll over. We keep those in a separate bucket now so that we can roll them over at a reasonable time without the dollars getting messed up by plans being added and changed in the first couple weeks of the new Spring term. At the end of the Spring term then all dining dollars are swept back to the University and everyone can start with a new meal plan in the Fall.
