In this Membership Minute, Corey Salem, Director of Member Engagement, and William Hurley, Professional Development Coordinator, discuss the CASP certification, qualifications for applying, and how to prepare for the exam.

About CASP: CASP is the Certified Auxiliary Services Professional Designation – the only benchmark certification that validates and measures competencies that one operating at the level of a director or above must demonstrate to successfully oversee the delivery of multiple auxiliary services found on a college or university campus.

CASP Lab: Formerly known as the CASP Prep Course, the CASP Lab is broken out into two groups, one developed for those who are taking the exam at C3X and another for those who wish to take the exam sometime in the future.

Campus Care Grant

Backing How Your Campus Cares for Its Student Community.

We know you’re busy problem-solving to bridge the gaps between what students have and what they need to thrive.

The Campus Care Grant distributes $25,000 every year to programs and services that support student achievement by addressing their basic needs and minimizing unfortunate realities like homelessness and food insecurity. We’ve got your back, so you can have theirs.

The grant is fully funded by the NACAS Foundation. Applications are due by August 31.

C3X: New eXpress Speaker Announced!

Nichol Luoma, MBA | Associate Vice President of University Business Services, Arizona State University

Topic: Creating Sustainable Operations to Ensure Lasting Impact on the Campus Experience

About: Nichol Luoma is the AVP of University Business Services, University Sustainability Operations Officer and Chief Procurement Officer. Luoma is a first-generation college graduate and has nearly two decades of global business operations leadership experience. She oversees multiple operations at Arizona State University, including supply chain (procurement and materials management), auxiliaries, parking and transit, sustainability practices, risk management, physical security initiatives, and environmental health & safety.

Luoma graduated summa cum laude from ASU’s W. P. Carey School of Business and Barrett, the Honors College with a bachelor’s degree in supply chain management. She also was a W. P. Carey School of Business Outstanding Graduating Senior. She received her MBA from Duke University, where she also graduated summa cum laude and was honored as a Fuqua Scholar. She is also a Past President (2018-2019) of the National Association of Educational Procurement (NAEP) and is a faculty member for NAEP and the Western Association of College and University Business Officers.

Jaclyn Galan, Accounting Coordinator

1. Please provide a little bit of background information about yourself. 

I am a University of Virginia alumna (Go Hoos!) and am excited to be back in Charlottesville. Before NACAS, I worked in the tech field doing sales for Oracle and research for Forrester, both based out of the Boston area. I got into accounting working for a small non-profit out of the Petersburg, VA area. In my free time, I explore all the good places to eat around Charlottesville, travel as much as I can, and hike the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains.

2. Describe what you do in your job with NACAS.

I assist in accounting and finance operations.

3. What is one special skill you wish you had? 

Play the piano or really any instrument.

4. What is your dream vacation destination, and what would you do there? 

A country hop around Southeast Asia- eat!

5. What is your favorite comfort food? 

Anything spicy.
