Sunday Keynote

Dr. Caroline Millen is an Assistant Professor, Program Director, and Academic Advisor in the Department of Education at Keystone College. She earned her Ph.D. from Marywood University in Human Development and Organizational Leadership. She earned two master’s degrees and a bachelor’s degree from Binghamton University: a M.A.T. in English Adolescence Education, a M.S. in Educational Studies, and a B.A. in English. Although she was originally trained in adolescence education, she received the opportunity to develop and teach her own leadership curriculum to undergraduate and graduate students for eleven semesters. That curriculum became the basis for her doctoral research on “The Impact of Teaching Resilience, Goal Attainment, and Other Essential Leadership Skills to Young Adults via Virtual Instruction”. Her resilience research emphasized the importance of a trauma-informed lens, which she included in her dissertation and received the McGowan Medal for Excellence in Doctoral Studies in 2021. She explored this further by becoming certified as a Becoming Trauma Informed (BTI) Trainer. She continues to work on The Resilience Project, which aims to make Northeastern Pennsylvania a community of resilience. She believes the intentional discussion and sharpening of resilience skills is crucial as we consider the various and copious adverse experiences that children face, and it is important to advocate for systems that protect people of all ages from encountering unnecessarily traumatic situations. In addition to teaching college students, Dr. Millen has presented on trauma, resilience, leadership, goal setting, apprenticeship, and other essential life skills to a variety of audiences since 2015.
